Police Report: 22-051615 | Robbery 1st Degree
I had finished an afternoon shift at work this past Sunday, 2/6/2022, took the bus home, and went on my usual walking route, it was around late evening going into night that I got jumped by two poc males, did not know either of them, one with a bike and one with a small nickel/penny board, both around average body type and anywhere around 5’2 – 5’4, near the crosswalk on the opposite corner of American Savings Bank along A’ala Street.
They tried to jack me and my belongings after hitting me in the face once then brandishing a rusty small machete. I then ran two blocks away into the gate of Waena apartments but did not run home as I was being chased and did not want them to know the location of my home. I tried to ask a person nearby for help but he didn’t do anything, likely not wanting to be involved. The male then followed me into the gate, (Waena apartments’ security isn’t good, the gate is supposed to lock but that specific one doesn’t and hasn’t been the whole year), and attempted to get close to me again as I was trying to keep my distance. I tripped and he got over me and began hitting me with his fist and in between was cutting me with the machete. He managed to cut through one of my veins, and I began to lose more balance as I was bleeding out. There was some neighbors that started to gather and call the police which was probably enough to scare the guy away otherwise I’d probably be more injured. The neighbors called the ambulance for me and I was taken to the ER where they stitched me up. Wasn’t able to get any pictures of them unfortunately. But it was fortunate that the only important thing I lost was my wallet.
Side note: I had mentioned in the start that two males approached me. The one I saw on the bike that didn’t have the machete, though I don’t know him, I have seen once before in the same exact spot. The first time I ran into him he was alone, didn’t seem to have a weapon but did try to pick a fight with me. In which I ignored and he did not pursue. He looks somewhat younger than the male on the skateboard that had the machete.
(I know there are many social issues regarding race, I’m sorry, I did not mean to make any of this about race specifically, at all. I have met many good people of all races. I am not trying to offend anyone.)
It is truly sad that Hawaii is becoming a place where you can be targeted for lethal crimes right on or near your doorstep…
