The only remaining business in the city building on Pauahi St. is a Christian outreach mission for the homeless. The fresh fish store and Vietnamese sandwich shop bailed because the Caldwell administration refused to release $250K for private security guards for city properties in Chinatown. The city council voted unanimously for the funds which took effect on July 1. Kirk Caldwell has refused to release the funds. Ironically, one of the businesses that shuttered is a liquor store that the city leased the shop to despite the fact that it was violating it’s own policies. Caldwell is disrespecting Chinatown, its residents and guests.
