Black Friday? Small Business Saturday? Sadly it was not the case in Chinatown for several businesses along the 100 block of N. King St.
Just the day or two before, there was a long line of people waiting for their Thanksgiving custard-pumpkin pies from this Chinatown bakery DIRECTLY across the street from these businesses who were broken into and vandalized the following days.
On Friday night 11/26/21, a small cellular phone accessories and trinket shop had their front windows smashed for no apparent reason. The shop owner had to hire someone to cover their smashed window with plywood (see photo). The vandals perhaps thieves did not make it inside the store that night.
Next night, Saturday 11/27/21, approximately 6-7p a grocery stand and a neighboring electronic-tailor shop was broken into by possibility of 2 or 3 male (from video footage from around the area) thieves climbed over fencing in a back alley and proceeded to smashed door frames down, cut padlocks and enter into their businesses looking for cash from the registers and safe (was open). They were able to take a few hundred $ at both shops and approximately $1k worth of computer accessories i.e. USB storage drives, etc. The thieves also tried to enter another store next door however the shop keeper was still there and thwarted the thieves from entering their store from the back door. Photos of the damaged back door into the grocery store.
